Who are Icosa Water and how do we work?

How can Icosa Water operate?

Did you know that legislation has been in place since 1991 through the ‘Water Industry Act 1991’ to establish independent water companies?

This is now called New Appointment Variation (NAV). It allows independent water companies to serve a specific geographic area with water or sewerage services or both. Allowing developers to choose when it comes to who provides wastewater and/or water services on their development.

How are we different?

Firstly, it’s important to highlight the similarities between Icosa Water and incumbents. We are regulated just like incumbents and held to the same standards.

Who regulates us?

  • Defra
  • Ofwat
  • The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater)
  • Environment Agency
  • Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI)

However, what sets us apart is that we can operate all over England compared to traditional incumbents. Offering you a pragmatic approach and flexible solutions to your development.
