Meet the women in our Customer Services team – International Women’s Day

< Back to News

Meet Karen she works within our Retail Customer Services department and she joined Icosa Water in August 2023 but has been in the industry for 30 years. Lets see what she had to say about her role within Icosa Water and equality in the utility industry.

Can you tell me a little about your role?

I form part of the Customer Services team based in Cardiff and deal with customer operational contacts. The team and I work closely with our billing team and with incumbents to bill our mutual customers for water and drainage services. Amongst other tasks, we manage water and drainage search CON29DW enquiries from prospective purchasers of properties within our network area. It’s important to work together to do the right thing for both the business and the customer and provide excellent customer service.

Do you believe there is a gender bias within the utilities sector?

For certain roles yes. But it is getting better.

What do you believe needs to happen to achieve gender equality in the utilities industry?

More women given opportunities whether its through graduate schemes or companies visiting schools or education centres to show roles that previously were not thought of as ‘not for women’ are for everyone. For example engineering roles or manual labour roles were not thought of as popular for women many years ago, but times are changing.
