How to be water efficient this year

< Back to Advice

The new year invites us to reflect on the previous year and set new goals for ourselves and the world around us.

We invite you to join us in being more water efficient. Whether it’s what you flush or how much you use, be water wise.

Whether to keep your bills down or protect this precious resource, learn how to be smart with your water.

Being water efficient in your home can be simple. Here are some of our top tips:

  • Insulating your pipes is the best way to prevent frozen or burst pipes this winter. Putting lagging on your pipes not only helps protect them from burst or damage but also helps keep your energy bills down. Find out how to put lagging on your pipework

  • Choose a water efficient shower head such as electric showers to save water and energy. Spending one less minute in the shower each day can also save £10 a year off water bills.
  • Make sure you only use the washing machine or dishwasher when you have a full load, this could save you thousands of litres a year.
  •  Only flush the 3Ps: Poo, Pee and Paper. These are the only things designed to be flushed down the toilet.
  • Never pour Fat, Oils or Grease down the drain. Dispose of them properly. Click here for more about how to look after your pipes and what not to put down our drains.
